Journalists Mediclaim premium fixed as Rs. 900.
 
Last Date for submission of Applications to APUWJ is 13th August

Hyderabad, August 7:  The state government which fixed the premium to be paid by the working journalists at Rs. 1000/-  for Mediclaim Insurance from the present Rs. 771/- was forced to reduce it to Rs. 900/- on the intervention of the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ). The Union leaders met the Commissioner of I&PR and protested against steep hike in the premium and demanded its reduction.

For the last six years, the total premium for the one lakh rupees Medi-claim insurance was pegged at Rs. 1951/-. While the journalists paid Rs. 771/- the remaining Rs. 1180 was born
by the Government. This year the Insurance Company increased the premium to Rs. 2860/-. Now the journalists have to pay Rs. 900/- and remainder Rs. 1960 will be paid by the Government.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the General Secretary of APUWJ, Y Narender Reddy called on the working journalists in the state to pay Rs. 900/- in favour of APUWJ payable at Hyderabad by DD or by on line payment in the Andhra Bank in APUWJ A/c No: 0208100 110 14450, Hyderguda Branch, Hyderabad by 13th August 2010.

He said that all the journalists in the state should avail the scheme by sending the application available in the Union website www.apuwj.org duly filled and by attaching the counter foil of the online payment into the union account at Andhra Bank or by DD for Rs.900/- .
